Navigation System

A navigation system consists of the following main elements: GPS antenna, navigation computer and display. Using the antenna for the Global Positioning System (GPS), the navigation system takes a bearing on satellites that are in a geostationary orbit around the Earth. This bearing makes it possible to determine the exact location of the car on the Earth's surface to within a few metres.

With the constantly updated bearings of the moving car and the comparison with the wheel speed sensors of the antilock brake system, the computer can calculate the route for the car. To do this it needs basic information about the entire road network in the form of digitalised data. This information is recorded on disk (CD-ROM or DVD) which the computer of the navigation system accesses.

After entering a destination, the integrated navigation computer then calculates the quickest or shortest route and while giving directions, compares the calculated route and the current position of the car. If these deviate from each other - for example, because the driver has chosen a different route because of a traffic jam, or by mistake  - a suitably adjusted route is automatically calculated.

Using the Traffic Message Channel (TMC), dynamic route directions are possible: the navigation system automatically recognizes traffic congestion and, if necessary, offers an alternative route.

The SEAT Navi System and Navi System Plus come equipped with Bluetooth for phone & audio streaming. MP3/WMA sound compatibility from 10 speakers and connectivity for USB, SD card, IPod and an Auxiliary port. Also comes with Full Link Technology, which offers instant access to online music, emails and social media on the move. Includes MirrorLink™, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.
